I think so often people (especially other therapists) are surprised that the care I provide to my clients is insurance-funded. I know so much of that is informed by having spent many years in community mental health before joining the collective - I learned to practice the way I do while also using this horrible system to fund it. It is complex, and I am complicit, but I am going to use that wrench to help and not harm people, you know? Until the day I divest from licensure, I will take insurance - not every therapist has to think the same way (many brilliant ones I adore don't), and I know there is a lot of privilege embedded in my model that I would never deny.
This is beautiful, Libby. Makes me think of a friend who is terrified of what if the healthcare system collapsed and he couldn't get his insulin.
And thank you for the kind words!!! You just made me think of how I got here.
